SAMOS -- The fire on the Greek island of Samos keeps on raging, quickly spreading and reaching an area 10 km southwest of the capital city of the island, Greek Kathimerini daily writes.

The frontline of the fire is large. Eight firefighting planes and six helicopters, 30 firefighters with 17 fire engines, a land unit of 70 people and more than 150 volunteers are trying to extinguish the flames. However, the strong wind hinders their efforts.

Meanwhile, firefighters have managed to contain the fire close to Patras on the peninsula of Peloponnesus.
