Sky Sports understands Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is closing on a deadline day move for former Liverpool defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos.

The powerful Greek centre-half left Anfield in August 2011 to make a fresh start in Germany with Wolfsburg.

The 32-year-old is already considering his future at Wolfsburg and he is set to be offered a route back to the Premier League by Sunderland.
